- Dark hours can be continuous or intermittent according to growing conditions and hen house management.
- A constant 24 hours light is recommended for the first three days of breeding period
- The time at which the daily darkness begins throughout the breeding period must strictly follow the time it was at the beginning of the perid
- When light programs are used to regulate growth, the adequacy of the feeder and drinker space must be ensured so that birds can have free access to appropriate diet and water.
- The appropriate light intensity is 20-30 luxes for the first 7 days and 5-10 luxes afterwards.
- The most convenient way to reduce light intensity in hen house is to use dimmer or to substitute light bulbs according to age of birds.
- Light bulbs must be always kept clean. Dusty bulbs can decrease severity and effectiveness of light by up to 70%. It is recommended to install bulbs at 2.2 to 2.5 meters from the ground with 3.5 meters of intervals.
